North Vancouver: RCMP say they are looking for witnesses and dash-cam footage in an effort to further their investigation of a carjacking of a taxi cab.

North Vancouver RCMP say on March 18, just after midnight, officers received multiple reports that a suspect assaulted a taxi driver and took off in the vehicle near Mountain Highway and Main Street.

Frontline officers immediately responded to the incident and provided first aid to the taxi driver, who was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. It is alleged the suspect was riding in the taxi and, at some point, assaulted the driver and stole the cab, leaving the driver behind.

Police say officers were able to track the taxi to the 1700 block of the Lillooet Road area.  The police say with the assistance of Integrated Police dog services, the suspect was safely taken into custody without incident.

The suspect is a 35-year-old man from North Vancouver and are facing multiple charges, including robbery, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and mischief.

“This was a frightening and dangerous situation for the taxi driver,” said Constable Mansoor Sahak of the North Vancouver RCMP.

“The quick actions of our officers led to the safe arrest of the suspect and return of the vehicle,” Constable Sahak says.
