Vancouver: BC Premier David Eby has said that provincial officials, including Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth, are checking to see if more should be done to ensure safety on transit.

Eby said Farnworth is speaking with transit authorities and police to explore added enforcement, but the premier said transit police and Surrey R-C-M-P have already stepped up patrols.

Eby added that the death of a 17-year-old, who was fatally stabbed while riding a bus in Surrey on Tuesday night is “every parent’s nightmare”.

The stabbing is the latest of several recent knife attacks on, or around, transit in Metro Vancouver, but the police said there are no links between the teen’s death and the attack on a bus rider who survived after his throat was slashed on April 1st. — Canadian Press
