Chandigarh: As the Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh has called for an important meeting with Sikh organizations in Bathinda on Friday and he may make some major announcement amid a Punjab Police’s hunt for Amritpal Singh, the head of the Waris Punjab De and his associates, the Punjab Police has asked all police officers to remain on alert.

According to sources, the leave of all Gazetted Officers (GOs), Non-Gazetted Officers (NGOs) and EPO has been canceled till April 14. The heads have been asked not to approve any new leave of any kind till April 14, 2023. It has been instructed that all types of holidays approved earlier should be canceled immediately.

Fugitive radical preacher Amritpal Singh has called for a meeting of ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ to discuss issues related to the Sikh community on Baisakhi. However, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Friday said it was only the Akal Takht chief’s prerogative to convene a meeting of “Sarbat Khalsa”.

In two video messages that surfaced on social media recently, Amritpal Singh asked the jathedar of the Akal Takht, the apex Sikh religious body, to organise a gathering of devotees called “Sarbat Khalsa”.

Amritpal has also appealed to the Jathedar to take out a “Khalsa Wahir” (religious procession) from Akal Takht in Amritsar to Dumdama Sahib in Bathinda and hold a meeting there on Baisakhi day.
