Imphal: A BSF jawan was killed in firing by militants amid the ongoing violence in Manipur. Two other soldiers were injured. Army officials said a Border Security Force (BSF) trooper was killed while two Assam Rifles personnel were injured in a shootout between a group of security forces and rebels in Serro area on the intervening night of June 5-6.

“One BSF soldier was critically injured while two Assam Rifles personnel sustained bullet injuries in the general area of Seru,” the Indian Army’s Spear Corps said in a statement.

“Extensive operations were carried out by Assam Rifles, BSF and police in the areas of Sugnu/Serou in Manipur. There was intermittent exchange of fire between the security forces and the group of rebels throughout the night of 5-6 June, the security forces retaliated effectively.”

Army officials said the Army, Assam Rifles, police and CAPF on Saturday launched area domination operations in the hilly and valley region across Manipur.
