New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday Congratulations Congress party for its landslide victory in the Karnataka Assembly elections.

PM Modi in a tweet wrote, “Congratulations to the Congress Party for their victory in the Karnataka Assembly polls. My best wishes to them in fulfilling people’s aspirations.”

“I thank all those who have supported us in the Karnataka elections. I appreciate the hard work of BJP workers. We will serve Karnataka with even more vigour in the times to come,” he added.

According to the Election Commission data, the Congress won 136 seats. The BJP has won 65 seats.

The BJP received a crushing defeat in the elections. Several sitting ministers and assembly speaker of the BJP government led by Basavaraj Bommai have also lost the elections.

Apart from Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, senior leaders including B. Sriramulu, K. Sudhakar, J.C. Madhuswamy, Govind Karjol, M.T.B. Nagaraj and K.C. Narayana Gowda lost the elections.

Chief Minister took responsibility for the defeat

Karnataka incumbent Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has claimed responsibility for the defeat in the elections, saying that the BJP could not make a mark in Karnataka even after the hard work of PM Modi and workers. “I take responsibility for this defeat.”

Many ministers in Basavaraj Bommai’s government have lost, but the CM has won for the fourth consecutive time by defeating his nearest rival Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan of the Congress from the Shiggaon constituency.
