Ottawa: As the Pregnant women in Ontario about to give birth are facing challenges on multiple fronts amid shortage of epidural catheters in hospital, Canada Health department today said that the government is working to help alleviate the current shortage of epidural catheters being reported in several provinces.

The health officials said that Medical devices, such as epidural catheters, that have not been authorized by Health Canada may pose serious health risks.

Officials advised pregnant women to speak to their healthcare provider before buying medical devices online.

In a statement, health Canada said that a growing number of Canadians are buying medical devices from the Internet. Many of the websites that sell medical devices are lawful businesses that provide a useful service. However, others sell devices that may present serious health risks, and some may take your money and send no product at all.
