Chandigarh: The Punjab government has approved Rs 25 crore for providing free books to students from Class I to Class X who belong to Scheduled Caste.
Providing more information, Minister of Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities, Dr Baljit Kaur said the decision will benefit many school students. She said besides, permission to spend this amount in one lump sum and exemption from the quarterly ban has also been granted.
She emphasized that the objective of the free textbook supply scheme is to ensure that students belonging to Scheduled Castes have access to educational resources without any financial burden. She said Punjab government’s initiative will play a significant role in empowering the students.
Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur also instructed the department officials to promptly implement schemes related to the welfare of SC students.
