Yellowknife: Hundreds of residents in Northwest Territories are being airlifted from at least three communities as wildfires close evacuation routes out of the towns in the territory.

Residents of Hay River, Fort Smith and Jean Marie River are all boarding airplanes on Monday as the flames render highways unsafe.

The territorial capital of Yellowknife is still considered safe, even as a fire approaches with 30 kilometres.

Meanwhile, a military reconnaissance team has arrived and the Canadian Forces are expected to be fully mobilized by tomorrow. – Canadian Press
