Environment Canada is forecasting high winds into this afternoon and evening for swaths of Vancouver Island and parts of Metro Vancouver.

The agency has issued a special weather advisory saying a very strong storm approaching the west coast will bring winds of up to 100 kilometres an hour over northern Vancouver Island.

B-C Ferries has cancelled nearly two dozen sailings so far today-

Vancouver (Tsawwassen) – Victoria (Swartz Bay)
Vancouver (Tsawwassen) – Nanaimo (Duke Point)
Vancouver (Horseshoe Bay) – Nanaimo (Departure Bay)
Comox (Little River) – Powell River (Westview)

Vancouver (Tsawwassen) – Southern Gulf Islands
Galiano Island (Sturdies Bay) – Victoria (Swartz Bay)
Texeda (Blubber Bay) – Vancouver Island (Campbell River)
Powell River (Westview) – Texada (Blubber Bay)
Vancouver Island (Campbell River) – Quadra Island (Quathiaski Cove)
Cortes Island (Whaletown) – Quadra Island (Heriot Bay)
