West Kelowna: The Columbia Shuswap Regional District on Friday said 131 homes and other structures have been destroyed by wildfires in the B.C. Interior region.

Information Officer Erick Thompson said the damage assessment for the Bush Creek East wildfire has been hindered by ongoing fire activity and thus are subject to change.

B.C. Wildfire Service Information Officer Mike McCulley said hundreds of firefighters are engaged in the battle against the blaze, along with more than 100 pieces of heavy equipment and 17 helicopters.

McCulley said fire activity has been subdued by weather in recent days, although an expected warm and dry stretch is coming later this week. — Canadian Press
