Chandigarh: The presence of Akal Takht Jathedar Harpreet Singh at the engagement ceremony of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha and film actress Parineeti Chopra has received sharp reactions from different sections.
The AAP also launched a counter-attack and defended the Jathedar after senior Akali Dal leader Virsa Singh Valtoha questioned the his participation in the engagement ceremony.
Valtoha accused Jathedar Harpreet Singh of not taking care of Sikh dignity. He objected to Jathedar going to Raghav and Parineeti’s engagement program.
To this, AAP criticized and retaliated to Valtoha’s statement and said that the Akali Dal cannot decide where Jathedar Sahib should go and where he should not. The AAP alleged that the Akali Dal has always been doing politics in the name of Sikhs.
Pertinently, Harpreet Singh, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, attended the engagement event at Kapurthala House on Saturday evening.
Following this, Jathedar faced opprobrium from different sections on the social media on this matter and said that Jathedar should not have gone to the place as he is holding the supreme post of the Sikh institution.
Akali leader Valtoha in a social media post wrote, “Respected Jathedar Sahib! A humble Sikh like me is hurt today. Now god is the protector of the community.”
