Ontario: Former Liberal MP Raj Grewal has sought the quashing of the two criminal charges against him.

Grewal’s counsel argued that the prosecutors could not provide sufficient evidence to prove the charges against his client in the breach of trust charges.

The Crowns has sought to prove that Grewal had used his political office for personal gain. During this time, in exchange for big loans, people got access to the Prime Minister’s events and also helped in immigration files that went toward his gambling debt.

However, speaking before the judge on Monday, Grewal’s defence lawyer Nader Hasan argued that the public prosecutor wanted the judge to ignore all the facts and evidence presented during the proceedings of the entire case.

Grewal appeared in the court through video conferencing and his lawyer pleaded that he be acquitted of all charges.
