Chandigarh: After the challan submitted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the Kotkapura firing case, Magistrate Ajaypal Singh directed the former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, former DGP Sumedh Saini, IG Paramraj Singh Umranangal, former SSP Sukhminder Singh Mann, Charanjit Sharma and DIG Charanjit Singh to appear in person before the court on March 23.

Further action will be taken against them if they do not appear in person, the notice said.

On February 24, the SIT had submitted a 7,000-page challan to the court. Paramraj Singh Umranangal, Sumedh Saini and former SSP Charanjit Sharma have been granted bail by the high court in the case, while Parkash Singh Badal, Sukhbir Singh Badal, former SSP Sukhminder Singh Mann, DIG Sukhminder Singh Mann and others have been granted bail by the high court. Amar Singh Chahal is yet to get bail from any court in the case.

In this challan, Sukhbir Singh Badal and former DGP Sumedh Saini have been named as the main conspirators of the Kotkapura firing incident, while Parkash Singh Badal has been accused of cooperating in executing this conspiracy.

Meanwhile, taking forward the investigation into the Kotkapura firing incident, the Special Investigation Team has released a video of minutes before the Kotkapura firing incident on October 14, 2015, in which the general public has been asked to identify the suspect who is roaming armed in the back of the peaceful sit-in.

The court has also issued a notice to former SHO of Police Station City Kotkapura Gurdeep Singh. The investigation team a challan has also been filed against Gurdeep Singh.

Earlier, the protesters were made accused in this case, but the investigation team has now revealed that Gurdeep Singh Pandher allegedly conspired and tried to save himself and the rest of the accused from the situation arising out of the firing incident by filing a false case against innocent people.
