Ottawa: Today’s proposal from the federal Conservatives asks for a raise in the carbon price on all types of home heating, not only heating oil. Members of Parliament will vote on it.
The temporary heating oil exemption that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau established last month, according to Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, is polarizing.
Poilievre claims that in an effort to boost the Liberal Party’s dismal polling in Atlantic Canada, Trudeau is practicing regional favoritism.
According to Trudeau, heating oil is far more expensive than natural gas, and a disproportionate amount of homes in Atlantic Canada still use it. It also takes longer for these homes to switch from furnaces to heat pumps. — The Canadian Press
