B.C. Marks Two-Spirit Celebration and Awareness Day with Focus on ‘Infinite Strength’
Jennifer Blatherwick, Parliamentary Secretary for Gender Equity, released a statement today in honour of Two-Spirit Celebration and Awareness Day, highlighting the contributions of Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQIA+ people across British Columbia and Canada.
“Today, we celebrate the Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQIA+ people in our lives and communities throughout B.C. and Canada,” Blatherwick said. “This day is a time to come together with Two-Spirit, queer, and transgender people, friends, and family to honour lived experiences and deepen awareness of the contributions that enrich our communities.”
The theme for this year’s observance, ‘Infinite Strength,’ emphasizes the power of solidarity. Blatherwick stressed that collaboration and partnership are key to building inclusive environments where everyone is recognized and celebrated for their unique identities and leadership.
Observed annually on the spring equinox, the day symbolizes renewal, rebirth, and growth as the seasons shift from winter to summer. Blatherwick noted that it reflects the ongoing commitment to honour distinct identities and foster well-being within communities.
She concluded by inviting all British Columbians to reaffirm support for Two-Spirit people and Indigenous-led pathways toward inclusion, equity, and safety.
The statement reinforces the province’s focus on advancing equity and recognition for Indigenous and LGBTQIA+ communities.
