Ontario: Ontario is removing TikTok from all government-issued devices with immediate effect. The announcement was made by the Treasury Board of Ontario President Prabhmeet Singh Sarkaria on Thursday afternoon.

He said that all members of the Progressive Conservative Party Caucus have been instructed to remove this video sharing app from their private devices with immediate effect.

In a statement, Sarkaria said that this step is being taken as a precautionary measure to protect government data and networks.

He also said that although there has been no data theft, his government is fully concerned towards taking all precautionary steps to save the data. Sarkaria said government advertising campaigns are also being removed from TikTok.

Meanwhile, a company spokesman said that it is very disappointing that this decision has been taken by the provincial government without any basis.

“We are also ready to sit with the government to decide what should and should be done to protect the privacy and security of Canadians,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
