Chandigarh: An attempt was made to desecrate Gurudwara Sahib in Patiala, district of Punjab on Wednesday when a man bare head and wearing shoes entered the Gurudwara Singh Sabha in Rajpura, police said.
After seeing a youth walking towards the Guru Granth Sahib wearing shoes, devotees detained him and forcibly pushed him out of the Gurdwara. He was later handed over to the police.
Accused has been identified as Sahil, a resident of Rajpura. Police are interrogating him. His family claimed that he is mentally unstable and has been undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
Earlier, a woman was found drinking alcohol near the sarovar at Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib in Patiala. She was shot dead by a devotee with a licensed revolver.
