Chandigarh: Lok Sabha MP and Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) chief Simarjit Singh Mann has advised fugitive Amritpal Singh to go to Pakistan. Simranjit Singh Mann said that Amritpal should not surrender and he must cross border.

Mann, a Lok Sabha MP from Sangrur, said, “We had also gone to Pakistan in 1984. Didn’t we go? Mann said these things in an interview to a media organisation. “What is the need for Amritpal to go to Nepal? They should go to the neighbouring country (Pakistan).

When asked if Amritpal’s escape to Pakistan was justified, Mann said his life is in danger. If the government is committing atrocities, then it is justified according to Sikh history.

Simranjit Singh Mann’s remarks were a reference to the events of 1984 when anti-Sikh riots took place. The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had ordered Operation Blue Star to wipe out Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his Khalistani allies.

After this, the Indian Army entered the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Indira Gandhi was later assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards. After the assassination of Indira Gandhi, there were large-scale anti-Sikh riots.
