Houston: A man, who has been found guilty of capital murder for gunning down 42-year-old Sandeep Dhaliwal, the first turbaned Sikh-American officer of Indian origin, in the US state of Texas in 2019, has been convicted by a court here.

A Harris County Criminal Court judge in Houston found Robert Solis, 50, guilty of murdering Dhaliwal.

The family of the deceased was also present there at the time of the court’s verdict. The judge took less than 30 minutes to deliver the verdict.

Dhaliwal was a father of three and had been working for ten years and he was going to be promoted to supervisor.

Dhaliwal’s work has been commemorated and honoured and a portion of a tollway in Houston was rechristened after the martyred officer. It was renamed ‘HCSO Deputy Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal Memorial Tollway’.
